Technology Overview
Whispering Gallery Mode (WGM) Sensors
Whispering Gallery Mode (WGM) technology makes use of fiber-optic components to produce extraordinarily sensitive subminiature resonators that can be adapted and incorporated into a variety of sensor instrumentation. A fluid wall shear stress sensor and a temperature sensor based on this technology are under development. [read more]
Penning Ionization Electron Spectroscopy (PIES) in Plasma
Also under development is a gas analysis technology based on Penning Ionization Electron Spectroscopy (PIES) in plasma. PIES allows for the selective detection of gases by measurement of electron energy spectra produced through the phenomenon of Penning ionization. A portable PIES detector for greenhouse gas analysis is under development. [read more]
Spectral Photoionization Detection (SPID)
Volatile organic compounds are a large class of pollutants found in numerous industrial and environmental settings. VOC identification is possible with Spectral Photoionization Detection (SPID), a sister technology to the PIES technique. Using SPID, VOCs are ionized by an ultraviolet (UV) lamp, and are identified by the unique electron energy spectra produced. [read more]
Fluorophore Drug Compliance Monitor
A major issue in health care is the problem of patient negligence in taking prescribed medicines. Lenterra, in partnership with Sequella Inc., is developing a miniature, wearable device that excites fluorescing compounds in the bloodstream with laser light to non-invasively monitor drug compliance.
